Basic Information
Bayonet and Black Horse is the Best 36 holes on Monterey Bay. Designer Gene Bates redesigned Bayonet Golf Course and its adjacent sister layout, Black Horse Golf Course, at the high-end, 36-hole Bayonet and Black Horse facility. The championship courses and the facility itself have a fascinating history. They were originally designed in the 1950s on the Ford Ord military base that trained generations of American servicemen before being decommissioned in the 1990s.
- Bayonet : with its narrow playing corridors and steep, penal bunkering, has long been considered the most difficult test of golf on the Monterey Peninsula. The par-72, 7,104-yard course has retained its famous bite after the recent renovation by award-winning architect Gene Bates, but playability and strategic options have been greatly improved. The uphill, dogleg right, 476-yard, par-4 ninth hole exemplifies the course’s significant challenge.
- Black Horse : 7,024-yard, par-72 layout, features sweeping vistas of the Pacific and is highlighted by fescue-framed fairways, bunkers with distinctive, serrated edges and slickly-contoured greens. The par-3 15th, created during the renovation, faces the bay and is sure to emerge as one of the great holes on the Peninsula.

This course is the one of PGA professional championship course at Monterey near Pebble beach. 36 holes, Bayonet course and Black Horse course. We played Bayonet today, and enjoyed the spectacular ocean view at both. Awesome course condition and lawn maintenance. Course layout is orthodox, wide and slight up and down slope, no water hazard. However many tree lines and bush make pressure to players, some of bunker and green are so challenging. A couple of bunkers are located strategically around green, plus Green is massively slippery, so fast.
50 47 97 I excuse my score, I wanted to believe this score was caused by 5 hours drive up from Los Angeles. By the way, it’s so chilled here, 65F degree even on July..
